Rafa Andarias, sponsored by Fermax, wins Spanish Adapted Sailing Cup
Fermax’s backing for sports sponsorship is bringing great acclaim to the audio and video door entry brand, especially thanks to Rafa Andarias. The adapted racing sailor, reigning Champion of Spain, has just won a second consecutive Spanish Cup.
At just 22, with a great spirit of triumph against all odds and an impressive track record, Rafa Andarias is one of the most promising figures in Spanish adapted sports. Not only is he the current Spanish Champion - on May 20th, he won the Spanish Paralympic Sailing Cup championship title in class 2.4mR for the second year running, in a complicated race that took place in the Murcian town of Los Alcazares.
Although he is happy and pleased after a competition in which he showed great regularity over the six races held, this Iberdrola-Fermax pre-paralympics team member who sails for Javea Nautical Club is not one to rest on his laurels. His goal for now is to maintain the high level that swept him to victory the other day in Los Alcazares and has also won him great praise as the best Spanish representative in the latest edition of the French Olympic Sailing Week, as well as the British Skandia Sail for Gold regatta.
The 2.4mR class that Rafa competes in is an individual category open to men and women in which the athlete races alone, using adapted vessels. The class calls for great skill, tactical vision and reflexes to quickly deal with difficulties. As in other adapted sailing events, the scoring mode corresponds to the degree of disability, in such a way that athletes with different disadvantages can compete together.
Fermax has incorporated sports sponsorship as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility for over a decade and is especially satisfied with the collaboration with Rafa Andarias. It is not just a question of results, but also about the way that the athlete goes about overcoming the hardships, celebrating the effort and facing up to the competition.
